Jose Mourinho needs five points to better worst Man Utd home Premier League points return

An eighth draw at Old Trafford on Saturday leaves Manchester United with work to do to avoid a worst-ever Premier League home points return this season.

United’s travelling supporters have often serenaded the team with their own version of Herman’s Hermits classic “I’m into something good” this campaign, gleefully declaring Jose Mourinho has got United playing “the way they should”, and with 27 points away from Old Trafford, a points haul bettered only by Manchester City and league leaders Chelsea, they are well within their rights to be so buoyant.

At home, there is less enthusiasm. With just six wins and 26 points from 15 home fixtures to date, Mourinho is in danger of finishing his first season in the United hotseat with the worst home points tally in United’s Premier League history.

Defeat to bitter rivals City in September, who at the time looked unstoppable under the tutelage of Pep Guardiola, remains the only time United have emerged with nothing to show for their efforts on their own patch in the league.

However, it is the eight draws that have been really damaging, especially when you consider Hull, Burnley, Stoke, Bournemouth and West Ham are among the teams to frustrate United.
